HANGOVER PREVENTION
It has been said that the only way to guarantee not getting a hangover is “don’t drink alcohol”! Certainly that is true. However, in theory there are ways to prevent the hangover effects of alcohol consumption.
One approach would be to pre-load the body with extra fortification of nutrients the loss of which (due to consumption of alcohol) can be anticipated. For example, drink lots of water containing electrolytes to avoid dehydration and loss of minerals. Another approach would be to pre-load the body with substances that mitigate certain body responses to the presence of alcohol that otherwise would result in hangover symptoms. For example, taking a headache medication to fight inflammation before the symptoms are actually present. Another approach would be to pre-load the body with substances that would protect and support the liver in speeding up the body’s natural process of alcohol detoxification and removal of congeners. Still another approach would be to pre-load the body with substances that would metabolize alcohol in the stomach or small intestines, before it has a chance to reach the blood stream causing consequent hangover effects and necessitating alcohol metabolism as a function of detoxification by the liver.
The best solution might be one that combines all of these approaches.
