AMINO ACIDS
- ALANINE - Alanine is important in converting energy in the blood stream to energy stored in the body by the liver and muscles. Alanine is used as fuel by tissues of the brain, nervous system and muscles. In conditions such as hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), Alanine may be used as a source for the production of glucose, in order to stabilize blood glucose.
- ARGININE (Semi-Essential Amino Acid) - Arginine promotes regeneration of liver tissue (hepatomagenic). Arginine combats physical and mental fatigue. It promotes detoxification of ammonia. Glucose tolerance, insulin production and liver lipid (fat) metabolism all are adversely affected by Arginine deficiency. Arginine is a remedy for Gastritis.
- ASPARTIC ACID - Aspartic acid assists the liver by removing excess ammonia and other toxins from the bloodstream. Aspartic Acid increases resistance to fatigue and increases body stamina. Its ability to increase resistance to fatigue is thought to be as a result of its role in clearing ammonia from the body. Aspartic Acid it is needed for brain and neural health.
- CYSTEINE & CYSTINE - Function as an antioxidant. It neutralizes toxins. Cystine is an important precursor to Glutathione, one of the body's most effective antioxidants.
- GLUTAMIC ACID – Glutamic acid is considered to be nature's “brain food”. It is especially important in brain metabolism. It functions as a brain fuel by serving as an excitatory neurotransmitter. It transports potassium across the blood brain barrier. It combines to form L-Glutamine and in the process picks up ammonia radicals; which is the only method the brain has of detoxifying ammonia. L-Glutamine sustains mental ability. Glutamic Acid gives a "lift" from fatigue. It is used as a remedy for hypoglycemic coma.
- GLYCINE - Glycine produces glucogen, which mobilizes glycogen (energy stored in body tissue) and creatine, which breaks glycogen down for use as energy by the muscles of the body. It is used to counteract hyperacidity (antacid) in the digestive system.
- ISOLEUCINE (Essential Amino Acid) - A deficiency of Isoleucine can produce symptoms similar to those of hypoglycemia. Isoleucine has been found experimentally to reduce muscle twitching and tremors. Isoleucine (and Leucine) provide ingredients for the manufacturing of other essential biochemical components in the body; some of which are utilized for the production of energy, as stimulants to the upper brain and for maintaining alertness. Isoleucine is necessary for stabilizing and regulating blood sugar and energy levels.
- LEUCINE (Essential Amino Acid) - Leucine helps with the regulation of blood-sugar levels as well as energy regulation. A Leucine deficiency can result in Hypoglycemia symptoms (including, dizziness, fatigue, headaches, and irritability).
- LYSINE (Essential Amino Acid) - Lysine produces L-Carnitine, which has an anti-fatigue effect. Lysine deficiency may result in poor appetite, tiredness, inability to concentrate, irritability and bloodshot eyes.
- METHIONINE (Essential Amino Acid) - Methionine interacts with other body substances to detoxify harmful compounds. It is a powerful antioxidant. Methionine has shown protective effects against alcohol which stimulates the release of superoxide radicals. It also aids in the maintenance of the pool of glutathione peroxidase, the powerful enzyme antioxidant. It has the ability to detoxify histamine when levels of such are high. Methionine is a major player in mitigating damaging effects of toxic substances on the liver.
- PHENYLALANINE (Essential Amino Acid) - Phenylalanine helps the body’s natural pain control mechanisms to act in a more effective manner, rather than simply acting as an analgesic. Phenylalanine produces and helps maintain an elevated positive mood, alertness and enhances memory.
- PROLINE -Proline is an energy storage source of glucose by the liver and muscles (it is glycogenic).
- SERINE - Serine supports storage of glucose by the liver and muscles.
- THREONINE (Essential Amino Acid) - Threonine aids liver lipotropic function when combined with aspartic acid and Methionine. Threonine is a precursor of Glycine and Serine. It supports storage of glycogen (glucose convertible to energy) by the liver and muscle tissue. It has been used as a remedy for migraine headache, anxiety / irritability and insomnia.
- TYROSINE - Tyrosine is called the “stress” amino acid. Dr. Gelenberg of Harvard Medical School determined that Tyrosine is more effective than antidepressants for relief of depression. It does this by increasing serotonin and norepinephrine levels in the brain. Tyrosine supports the formation of neurotransmitters. A loss of neurotransmitters can lead to physical and mental burnout and fatigue, as well as depression.
- VALINE (Essential Amino Acid) - Valine promotes mental vigor and muscle coordination. Valine has been used as a remedy for muscle twitching and tremors. Alcoholics and drug addicts have been found to have major deficiency of Valine and benefit from supplementation to correct and reverse hepatic encephalopathy (brain damage due to alcohol ingestion) and other neurological disorders.
